Last night’s set at Tuesday Night Music Club was short and interesting. Some technical glitches with the distorted vocals meant I had to send out a much drier signal than I would have liked, oh well – next time I know that if I can do it with minimal feedback in my rehearsal space running the vocals to a small amp, probably that’s the best way to handle them for future shows and then the venue can always mic the amp if they need it louder in the house.
I also got chatting with Terry O’Brien of SOCAN, who suggested I should maybe use a noise gate too. I’d totally forgotten I had one kicking around in the back of my toybox – because of course when you’re planning to make a lot of noise you don’t necessarily think of taming that noise, so I will definitely add that into the FX chain to tame some of the errant feedback [I did notice in rehearsal I can scream into the distortion channel no problem but when I stop to breathe the bloody thing shrieks feedback, the gate will nix that.]
Ah well. Lesson learned.
Overall while I ran out of time after a couple songs, I think the set went alright, and after some rejigging of the synth cave I’m now ready to start rehearsing for my next two appearances.
First up is CiTR Radio’s Thunderbird Radio Hell in early March. This will be a live show on the radio from CiTR’s lounge, more info and podcast details closer to the time. I also plan to have a friend come by and film the performance so I can post clips on YouTube.
And I’ll have another show in Vancouver in April 6th, more details once they’re announced. Just figuring out the combination of synths, FX and songs to start working with for both.
