Maqlu was born in the year of Death, but she's never hesitated to leave her roots behind.
After a bit of a detour from songcraft, 2008 saw Maqlu return to it with a vengeance, inspired by technological possibilities and the aural landscapes she found herself in. Armed with some new and old toys, gadgets, and a near-obsessive attention to sonic detail, she has begun re-immersing herself in the process of reshaping the world according to her Will, set to throbbing beats.
Her debut EP, Blood, was released on Walpurgisnacht 2010.
The music is the life.
Turn ons: Pro Tools. Distortion. Weird loops. Blue glows. Black magic. Firebrands. Lightning in the hand. Thunder in the monitors.
Turn offs: Daylight. Deadlines and dead minds. PC police.
Aside from her own work, Maqlu has a hand in remixing. Remixing credits thus far include Left Spine Down: "Reset [Maqlu Mix]" on Smartbomb 2.3: The Underground Mixes, iVardensphere: "Jigsaw [Speak Mix by Maqlu]" on Remixes vol. 1, Jakalope: "I Wanna Die [Reborn Mix]" and Virtual Terrorist: "Thermonuclear Something Or Other."
Maqlu can also be heard on-air as host of CiTR Radio's the Vampire's Ball, CiTR's industrial/electro/noise show on Friday nights from midnight to 4am PST. Some of her more experimental work has aired during events like CiTR's annual 24 Hours of Radio Art.
